A historic corner bar that has served only four simple, perfectly executed tapas since opening in 1945.

Very small a place in a alley. Four items on the menu. Ordered one each plus a beer. The anchovies were over cooked or repeatedly fried. The salad was fine, the tomatoes and onions were fresh. The bread was stale both under the sausage and anchovy. The beer was fine. The service was effective.

It was my 2nd time back visiting Bar La Plata after my 1st visit in 2016. Fell in love with their deep fried anchovies which without fail, i had 6 plates of it. Owner was extremely friendly as usual back than. Atmosphere was fabulous, tiny yet cosy.

Simple and small, with good quality food and wine. This is the perfect place for a quick tapa and a small wine. Flavors are good, ambiance is good and whatever you order, it is served super fast. Can be crowded and then 5 mins later you have quite space. Nice spot for locals, or those who visit Barcelona very briefly.

Like a loop in time: the same menu for almost 80 years, as if it was here long before I arrived and will still be here long after I’m gone. Six small tables. Oak barrels of vermouth people drink straight from. The smell of fried anchovies, tomatoes, olives hanging in the air. The menu is brutally simple — four or five items, and that’s the magic. Pescadito frito — tiny fried fish. Pan con tomate with the freshest tomatoes and olive oil that tastes like bottled sunlight, gathered somewhere in the minds of Catalans. Traditional butifarra. And that’s it. Nothing more. Nothing missing. I’m standing at the bar. Around me — a mix of regular locals and people who just read about La Plata in a guidebook but clearly want to catch that real taste of Barcelona. We’re talking across the counter. Suddenly, a woman behind us starts tossing little paper balls at an elderly man at the bar. She asks me to call out to him. She’s been coming here for twenty years. Works as a nurse. It’s their small tradition. She speaks decent English. Her friend is shy, but my friend somehow finds common ground with her in Italian. Beautiful memories.

A tiny but very cosy and authentic place not far from the shore. The place is buzzing with locals having beer or local wine. There are only 4 tapas available (fried anchovies, toast with anchovy, toast with sausage, tomato & onion salad) but all four very tasty, especially the fried anchovies. I highly recommend!
