We visited Leña during our one-day stay in Barcelona. As a starter, we decided to try the Iconic Burgers. The size was ideal for a starter. The combination of flavors in the pretzel bun was on point. For the main course, we chose the Special DG Steak with fries and truffled onion. The steak was tasty, and the portion was more than enough for two people. We were surprised by how good the onion side was; combined with the fries, it created a great pairing. To finish our meal, we ordered the Black Truffle Tiramisu. The addition of hazelnut praline was something that we really enjoyed.
We entered the restaurant with a romantic and pleasant feeling, warmly welcome by the staff that politely took us to our table, patiently explained to us what to expect from the menu. Every dish we ordered were just perfectly delicious. Our recommended red wine was included in our price tasted smooth and not overly sweet. We had an absolutely enjoyable evening with Lena.
I had only been to Leña in Madrid that I really loved but the one here in Barcelona I was left quite dissappointed. The food itself was delicious, such as the steaks and I loved the potato puree, but the octopus starter was full of various sauces that you could never guess you are eating octopus. I heard from their staff they had outside the menu a great langoustine but I did not expect it to be simply a plain cut langoustine with nothing else around it, but nonetheless it was tasty. Mostly the bad experience came from the staff as the servers constantly changed, many did not know English and the ones that did know only took our order and then the servers that served the food did not know English and we had many miscommunications. In the beginning when we ordered wine and water, the water did not arrive and later when we re-ordered it, it turned out the bottle was next to our wine bottle but noone opened it to pour the water in our glasses, which was very frustrating. Additionally, we ordered specific type of green peppers and we received totally different red peppers, which was probably due to the miscommunication with the staff that did not know English. I can continue listing occurrences of other miscommunications but I do not see the point. It was frustrating that half the time the staff that came to our table did not know any English and simply the level of service was not good enough for such an expensive restaurant. You simply cannot pour all of us wine and no water at all and one of the girls on my table really wanted normal (not sparking) water, and she waited probably 15 minutes until they poured her the normal water... That's just not as professional as it should have been. The tiramisu was the best dessert!
The food was great very tasty. We took the Tomahawk steak and the dessert was absolutely stunning. The environment was very nice and the service was very professional. It was my first time and definitely not my last.
Everything we ate, aside from the bread with the tartar, was very good! Service was attentive and I liked the atmosphere. On the negative side, the price is high, wine was overpriced, and so I have to rate it 4 stars as it was not a WOW experience. What to recommend - for starters the avocado salad, the tomato salad and the steak tartar were all good. For the steak tartar we could select from 1 to 10 how spicy we wanted it. Burrata was not bad, and chicken skewers were tasty. Really good were the croquettes. The meat is clearly what to come for - ribeye and wagu - were great. 600g of ribeye was consumed by some of the men alone! The fish (sea bass) while not special was also fresh and tasty. The lobster had too much sauce. For dessert seemingly the the chocolate cake and rose dessert were the ones to take…the pineapple was good too. As was the pastry (that looks like ET’s face in the photos below). I enjoyed the place. I will probably come back….when in the mood for good meat not far from home….and I don’t mind paying top dollar.
