On tour and guide recommended Brauhaus as a good place for a local bier. Kölsch was the stated local brew and we were pleased to have it. It was a warm Cologne day and we had walked a few miles. The afternoon provides shade to the outside area adjacent to the Elves' Fountain. Didn't have food since the cruise ship doesn't allow anyone to become hungry, but we did buy a half dozen drinks. Waiter was exceptional, rumors about stiff wait staff are overrated. He was a kind, helpful and friendly person who even took our group photo. Restrooms are down the spiral stairs, in the dungeon. There is plenty of capacity, as they are ready for a crowd.
Popped in to try the früh kölsh at this historic brewery since 1904, situated a couple minutes from the cathedral. Impressive building and interior with a rustic feel and decor. Service was very good. We had 12 kölsh( crisp and clean, very nice beer) at €2.50 and a shot of deckundönn (herbal shot) €3. They serve local cuisine and european dishes. Spiral staircase that leads to the toilets and medieval vault. In total our bill was €36. Overall a great authentic experience, next time will try the food as looked and smelled amazing.
Stopped in for lunch and beer and we weren't disappointed. The beer was so crisp and clean and it paired well with the food. The tomato soup was amazing and my wife enjoyed the pork knuckle. Cool, old world vibe. Next door is a gift store with a tap where you can buy a beer. Handy.
The place is awesome, the service staff is very friendly and heart welcoming, but the food wasn’t that good, the pork knuckle has strong pork taste like it was old, so thats why we dont like it. The other dish was kind of ok. The thing that we were sharing table with two strangers was kind of weird for us and that ruined the idea of little time for ourselves
This is a famous place that you must try! We visited during Carnival, so it was very crowded and exciting. They were serving their famous beer so fast it felt like water, and it tasted amazing. The food was also good. We had a chicken dish that we really enjoyed. Even with the huge crowds, it was a great experience and a lot of fun.
