Very large museum with ancient art: from Romantics to local Impressionists, from the Baroque of Rubens to early medieval religious paintings, and not surprisingly, even a few Italian ones. Some Rococo paintings, in my opinion, are noteworthy. The visit take at least 2-3 hours. There is an elevator.

genuinely interesting and rewarding place to visit, especially for anyone who appreciates classical European art. The museum offers a well-structured journey through several centuries of painting, making it easy to follow the development of artistic styles and themes over time. Even without deep art-historical knowledge, the collection feels accessible and thoughtfully curated. One of the strongest aspects of the museum is its impressive collection of medieval art, particularly works from the Cologne School. These paintings provide valuable insight into religious art of the Middle Ages, with detailed compositions and expressive figures that reflect the spiritual atmosphere of the period. Moving forward in time, the Renaissance and Baroque sections are equally engaging. The museum features important artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Peter Paul Rubens, and Rembrandt, whose works stand out for their technical mastery, emotional depth, and historical significance. Seeing original paintings by these artists up close is a memorable experience. The museum also includes works by artists like Titian, Cranach, and van Dyck, which adds further depth and variety to the collection. The building itself is calm and well-organized, allowing visitors to focus on the artworks without feeling overwhelmed. Overall, the Wallraf-Richartz Museum is a cultural highlight in Cologne and a must-visit for anyone interested in important European artists and art history.

We went spontaneously an hour before closing and received a discount, allowing us in for only 4,5€! It’s a spacious museum with 3 floors, every floor having a different times in history reflected in the art, would go again! Perfect rainy day activity

The wonderful exhibition of Impressionist paintings at this museum is further enhanced by additional paintings on loan from the Museum Langmatt, Switzerland, but only until 27 July. An unmissable opportunity if you are an art lover!
