Amazing experience 👍🏻 Loved the retro atmosphere. The food was overall great. One of the best tartars I ever had. Freshly chopped meat, amazingly dressed and seasoned 👍🏻 The gambas was great as well. The steaks were cooked to perfection and of good quality. The creamy sauce is not my personal favorite we all preferred the plain grilled one.
Okay wait… this place?? 😭 We found this hidden gem called Café de São Bento for lunch today and I’m still thinking about it. First of all, you literally have to ring a doorbell to get inside. Like hello secret society of good taste. Immediate vibe check passed. We did the lunch menu for 29€ which honestly feels illegal for how good it is. You can do a starter and main or main and dessert. I went starter and main because priorities. Started with the green salad and let me tell you, this was not just a salad. This was a moment. So fresh, so crisp, perfectly dressed. Every leaf knew its purpose. Then the main, the beef. The beef. I don’t even have words. It comes with this legendary secret sauce that’s apparently been around for over 200 years and honestly I believe it. It tasted like history. Like someone’s great great great grandmother whispered into that pan. Perfectly cooked, rich, indulgent, borderline emotional experience. The space itself is so cool, modern but still old school classic, dim, cozy, a little mysterious. The kind of place you accidentally stumble into and then gatekeep but I won’t because you need to go. And Pedro our server, 10 out of 10. So warm, so welcoming, and gave us amazing recommendations for the rest of our trip. We love a man with taste and direction. Overall, absolutely obsessed. This is the kind of spot you save for a special lunch that turns into a core memory. Run, don’t walk! And don’t forget to ring the bell! 🙌🏽
Strong NYC vibes in this cozy, luxurious little dining room that has jazz and crooners playing in the background. Service is great and so is the steak which tastes much better than it looks in the photos. What can I say? It’s not a photogenic steak. Cocktails are solid and wine selection is too. Not the cheapest dinner but I’d be hard pressed to find a place that will treat you better for less. I consider it a very good value.
We had the best experience here! An absolute must eat in Lisbon. Make sure to try both the traditional and Portuguese style steaks. The decor and ambiance helped set the tone and the restaurant’s house red from Douro was to die for. We would definitely eat here again!
They are not kidding when they say this is the best steak in Lisbon. The Bife à Café de São Bento, with filet mignon, fries and the egg (yes, order the egg. You're welcome) is absolutely to die for. Bonus for extra sauce and a little bread to eat with. Whenever we come to Lisbon, we must come here at least twice.
