Today I visited the Gulbenkian Center museum for the Arte & Moda exhibition. My visit was ruined by an elderly woman in the lobby near the ticket desk. She rudely distracted the cashier from her work. Even after the staff member asked her several times to wait, as she was selling me tickets for the exhibition, the woman deliberately continued asking more questions. I politely asked, in Portuguese, for the lady to wait. After that, she began shouting insults at me across the entire lobby, pointing out that I am not Portuguese, that I am in Portugal, and that I should keep quiet. I would like to note that the Gulbenkian Center was founded by a migrant for people of all backgrounds, regardless of their country of birth or residence. She was shouting and even threatened to call the police. She brought me to tears. The security guard and the cashier were very kind and tried to calm me down. I am disappointed that I did not feel safe.
Lovely gardens surrounding the museum complex. Really nice stop for a wander even without going specifically for an exhibition. Modern extension by Kengo Kuma Architects.
Interesting museum with an older building and a brand new one. Architecture of both is interesting. The landscape/gardens surrounding the museum(s) is very inviting. Tranquil place in a bustling city. Gardens open to the public
Unfortunately, the museum is temporarily closed. Yet, they have several exhibitions, including the main items like masterpieces from the main collections! Such as art pieces from Ottoman Empire, Iran, Asian arts, and European (mostly French in my opinion). The collection was amazing! I am so happy that they still offer temporary exhibitions even during the maintenance.
Incredible collection, definitely worth a visit. The new exhibition is stunning!
