This museum is a must visit when in Lisbon! It's near the waterfront, so you can visit the art and architecture museum first, break for a cappuccino and pastry at their café next, head to the historical technology museum next and then walk the beautiful waterfront last! Plan for at least four hours of fun!! The exhibitions spaces are huge! The art displays are huge too! And as a result, less to see so you won't get overwhelmed! Even if you are not a big fan of museums, this one will be a sure hit!!! And....I was able to make a dance video with my husband because they have a big mirrored wall near the coat lockers!! This museum will move you for sure! Enjoy!!!
Fantastic exterior architecture- you can walk on the 'roof' and get great river plus city views. Excellent modern art exhibitions and a delightful cafe setting, looking over the riverside too. Good food and service at a low price. Then there is the fascinating OLD powerstation which is a museum of technology and science nearby but part of the MAAT.
the restored power station is fascinating. The restored power station is fascinating. The art sprinkled throughout the powerstation is not that great, feels a bit immitative / sophomoric. In the main building (the one you can climb the roof) the art installations are cold and uninspiring, somewhat forced. if you are to see one art museum in Lisbon, this is not it. But still worth a stop, glad we visited!
The MAAT has an impressive exterior and a beautiful location by the river, but the museum itself is quite small for the price of admission. The architectural design is striking, yet the exhibitions inside feel limited, and the overall experience doesn’t fully justify the cost. It’s still worth seeing from the outside, especially for the building and the riverside walkway, but the interior can feel underwhelming if you expect a large or comprehensive museum.
Fascinating! We were there for several hours enjoying the art installations and the exhibits of the power generation tech from the past. Very cool! The piece de resistance though was the beautifully designed architectural masterpiece tucked adjacent to the old power station.
