A gritty, legendary pub that serves as the incubator for London’s modern post-punk and indie-rock scenes.

First time in London and I knew we had to have a meat pie. This place is renowned for their pies and they held up to their reputation. I got the chicken, bacon and leek pie with mash. It was delicious! Very rich and filling, so come on an empty stomach. The atmosphere is classic and elegant. I love how English pubs look! It’s a very popular place to grab a pint as well. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. The staff were warm and welcoming. Our server Patrick was friendly, funny and hospitable. He made sure our experience was excellent! I highly recommend coming here to anyone wanting a delicious British meal.
We look all over London for a traditional pub that offered pies. We found the Windmill Mayfair over google. When we arrived every table was reserved but barkeeper made it possible for us to get a table so we could try the pies. The pies where so good we reserved a table for another dinner in the Windmill Mayfair. And again the pies where delicious. We told the staff when we return to London we will definitely reserve a table again!!! Super service, great atmosphere and a great pub.
Historic pub in the heart of London, absolutely outstanding! We had been looking for a truly authentic, character-filled spot, and this place exceeded every expectation. We specifically went on a Sunday to experience a traditional Sunday Roast for the first time, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. The vegan Sunday Roast was simply spectacular, featuring an exceptional reinterpretation of a Beef Wellington-style Wellington that was both creative and incredibly flavorful. We also tried one of their Sunday pies, which was rich and comforting, and the Scotch egg.. perfectly cooked, beautifully balanced, and absolutely delicious A special mention goes to our waiter, Karol, who was attentive to every detail, warm, and genuinely welcoming. As it was our very first Sunday Roast experience, he guided us flawlessly, recommending the perfect dishes based on our appetite and preferences. His service truly elevated the whole experience. The atmosphere was everything you’d hope for in a historic London pub: cosy, vibrant, and full of charm. It felt like stepping into a place where tradition and quality are genuinely celebrated. We can’t wait to come back!
We stopped here for a late lunch, and decided to split a pie in order to have room for dessert. We tried the black pudding Scotch egg which was especially good when paired with the sauce. The yolk was cooked perfectly with a creamy center. We opted for the steak & kidney pie, and it was superb! It was the first time in my life I thought that kidneys were tasty. The kidney bits really complemented the richness of the steak and mushrooms. Then we got a sticky-toffee pudding to share, and it was amazing! The cake was warm and not too sweet, which made it a perfect match for the ice cream and sweet caramel pool beneath it. Definitely one of the best desserts I've ever had. The staff are friendly, and it's a really comfortable, clean space. Highly recommend!!
A Truly Authentic British Gem We had an incredible experience enjoying a classic steak and kidney, which was cooked to perfection—hearty, flavorful, and exactly what you’d hope for in a traditional pub. The atmosphere was fantastic, capturing that cozy, welcoming vibe perfectly, and the service was outstanding from start to finish. If you’re looking for excellent food and a great environment, this place is a must-visit!
