Stopped by this seafood stand inside Grand Central Market after seeing their bright neon sign — but unfortunately, it was a letdown. I ordered the uni (sea urchin), and it just wasn’t fresh. The flavor was flat and lacked sweetness. They simply opened the shells, placed them on ice, and handed over a lemon wedge — that’s it. For the price they charge, it really didn’t feel worth it.
Before coming to LA, we looked up food places to visit in LA on YouTube. Grand Central Market was one to keep popping up. We decided to try some of shops that were open. We got there kinda late, so a few were closed already. We tried Broad Street Oyster Company as one of our meals. The Sea Urchin was highlighted, but that's out of my wheelhouse. That's an acquired taste i have not developed. Oyster Rockefeller is one of our go to favorites. The young lady who took my order was very nice and pleasant. We ordered the ½ dozen. The presentation was awesome, especially in the middle of a busy mkt. The size of the oyster were a bit underwhelming, but if they were west coast oyster. They tend to be smaller than east coast. They were good nevertheless. I did see a delightful looking bloody Mary on display. We will give them another try.
Had lobster roll and hotdog with caviar. Food was great! They dont serve water though, you have to buy the expensive “death water” in a can if you want some water (lol what) Overall enjoy it, would come back
This counter has become our go-to place in LA for oysters. It's inside the Grand Central Market, on the street level, close to S Hill Street. Although it's lunchtime, it is less packed than last time. As we were waiting for our order, a young lady delivered about 30 sea urchins. "They're the best, fresh from Santa Barbara." When our food took longer to finish, one staff member came to ask if we'd like something to nibble on in the meantime. I said mindlessly that I'm considering the urchin. He flinched, then I realized he meant on the house. The spiny creature cost $30 each, just about as much as half dozen of Rockefeller oysters.
second broad street location we tried and it was just as good as the one in malibu. we ordered the cold lobster, warm lobster with uni, fish and chips, fried shrimp and clam chowder - they were all good and super fresh! it'll definitely cost a pretty penny, but i think it's worth it. if you had to try just one, go for the lobster roll - the size of the sandwich can be deceiving, but don't worry cause the lobster meat will make up for it. this location, being at grand central, is pretty fun. the atmosphere is a vibe.
