Maciel’s Plant-Based Butcher came highly recommended by the community, and after trying it for the first time, I understand why. I started with their bestseller breakfast burrito, and it delivers exactly what you want in a classic breakfast build — hearty, flavorful, and properly balanced. The potatoes are cooked right, the textures work, and nothing feels like filler. It’s satisfying without being overly heavy. But the real surprise for me was The Green Burrito. Egg, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, feta, salsa verde — and I added chorizo. The combination is layered, bright, and bold. The sun-dried tomatoes give it depth, the salsa verde cuts through beautifully, and the chorizo adds that extra savory punch. In my opinion, it actually outshined the bestseller. If you’re someone who appreciates a protein-forward, well-crafted breakfast burrito with intention behind the flavors, this is a spot worth pulling up to. Community-approved for a reason.
BEST vegan sandwiches in LA and a foodie destination. Don’t be like me and wait so long to try it! I avoided the sandos my friends recommended because I trust that they were great and wanted to try something that didn’t have influence in my opinion. I went the new-ish “The Smokey” and it blew my mind! The in-house deli slices were the main show and the spicy jam took it up a notch. It was balanced, the right amount of warm with delicate Smokey spiciness to it. I might need to eat through the entire menu! Make sure to get a pickle on the side and don’t be like me and forget to grab a Mac or potato salad too! Happy Munchies, aVeganAndHer
We ordered the Californian and the Italian. The sauce in the Italian was awesome. And the "meats" in both were so unique and flavorful. Both were delicious but if you don't like spice, the Italian may have too much heat. Stick to the Californian. We will definitely be back to order different items because there were too many to try in one sitting. To drink, we ordered the Guava and Hibiscus agua frescas. I'd get them again as they appear house made and were really refreshing. For a side we got the macaroni salad... And it was out of this world. Tasted exactly like the mac salads we loved before going plant-based and I wish we'd gotten several of these to take home. We brought home the salami and mesquite turkey to make in our own sandwiches and I'm glad we did! They had some awesome looking desserts but we didn't order any this time. This place is delicious, affordable, and healthy with the meats being whole food plant based. They were very busy when we got there but the wait wasn't long and the staff was really kind. The vibe in the quaint shop is adorable. There is seating inside and out. We will be back!
Visited Maciel's for the first time. I'm not normally a big fan of 'fake meat', but decided to give this place a try since it is completely plant-based. I was impressed! I had the Smokey sandwich and it was very tasty. My daughter had the Cheeseburger and enjoyed it as well. They have a selection of Vegan desserts and grocery items as well.
We ordered the Chicken Pesto and Flores. Both were very flavorful and generous in size for the price. We liked the chicken a bit better (the pesto was so good)! Flores was tasty but too sweet for me, I should have guessed by its description it would be a bbq flavor. Unassuming space with a steady stream of customers, counter service with outside tables and a decent selection of to-go stuff.
