I visited the Getty Villa after the Getty Museum, and it turned out to be an additional and unexpected surprise. The location is enchanting, overlooking the coast, and during the week it feels quite relaxed and easy to enjoy without overwhelming crowds. The Villa recreates, in its own way, a Roman villa, specifically inspired by the Villa of the Papyri in Herculaneum. For an Italian visitor it might feel a bit kitsch at first, but once you let go of comparisons, the experience can actually be memorable. The audio guide is available in several languages, including Italian, which adds real value to the visit. Beyond the art collection, the Villa is surrounded by beautifully gardens and even features an amphitheater, making the atmosphere immersive and unique. Absolutely worth seeing. Free admission, with paid parking.

This was a magical museum experience! The architecture was magnificent as well as the stunning view of the pacific ocean from the top. The collection had us aw stricken. The mummy wrapping, statues, and the overall history is a must see. The building and experience is one of a kind

The Getty Villa is a wonderful place to walk around and explore learn as a family. My kids enjoyed being able to walk around on their own and explore independently. Kids took lots of amazing pics. The selfguided audio tour is very informative and easy to use. Just scan the QR code for access. Free WiFi is available throughout the museum. The restrooms were clean and well maintained. Museum admission is free, though parking costs $25. We had a great experience on a Saturday afternoon.

I visited the Getty Villa today with my wife and two sons (ages 20 and 17) to celebrate my youngest’s 17th birthday. As someone who truly loves art history, this was his top request, and it was the perfect choice. **I won't post any art but just some pictures of the outer area.** From an art history perspective, the collection is unparalleled. Being surrounded by such a vast and meticulously curated selection of Greek, Roman, and Etruscan antiquities is an education in itself. Seeing the artifacts housed in a building modeled after the Villa dei Papiri makes the history feel alive—it’s not just a museum, it’s an immersive experience into the ancient world. The architecture is equally matched by the incredible views. Nestled in the hills of Pacific Palisades, the sight of the Pacific Ocean framed by the villa’s classical columns and lush Mediterranean gardens is breathtaking. The Outer Peristyle, with its long reflecting pool and views out toward the coast, provided some of the best photo opportunities of our trip. Whether you’re a serious student of history like my son or just someone looking for one of the most beautiful vistas in Los Angeles, this is a must-visit. A truly sophisticated and memorable way to celebrate a milestone birthday!

A beautiful Villa containing numerous artifacts and art pieces. Our guide Eric was extremely knowledgeable and professional. I highly recommend the architecture tour with him if you get the chance. Make sure to book your visit in advance, or you may be denied entry. Entry is free, parking costs $25 - so just think of the entry fee as $25.
