Lunch and dinner are usually packed with lots of people. But the wait is worth it. Choose from the different really fresh seafood and let them cook it to your liking. Definitely a place you should check out.
Oh my god, Astoria Seafood Market is a gem. I’ve never had an experience in New York that transported me back to Greece the way this place did. The entire concept is incredible. You pick your fresh catch, they season it simply, and everything centers on freshness, flavor, and sharing. It’s the kind of food that reminds you how good simple cooking can be. The staff is genuinely kind and always ready to help, which makes the whole experience feel welcoming and effortless. We tried the calamari, shrimp, and a whole fish, and every single dish was stunning. The lemon potatoes are perfection, and the complimentary garlic bread is such a thoughtful touch. It feels like a reminder of when restaurants used to give you little extras because they cared. Astoria Seafood is delicious, charming, and full of heart. I would go back in a heartbeat.
Food was great but a limited selection of preparations for fresh. Everything was cooked perfectly: squid, shrimp, scallops & lobster tails. Perfect! Excellent cold beets, Greek salad, & that Lobster Bisque was the absolute best I ever had. If I return I'm getting the fish stew as well. Everything they had prepared was just excellent! But make no mistake this is a fish market there is no decor & a fish market smell.
Best Seafood restaurant In New York for Freshness, Flavor, Selection, and Price. The seafood you pick to eat- was swimming hours before in the ocean. Does not get better than this! This restaurant is truly a gem. I got the barbounia and had them on the grill with some veggies and they were delicious! I also had the shrimp and salmon empanadas that were out of the world! 10 stars if I could.
Instead of ordering from a traditional menu, you walk in and select your seafood directly from the large display. You’ll find a wide variety including shrimp, squid, whole fish, fillets, and premium options like Chilean sea bass. After choosing and paying, the kitchen prepares it for you right away. Most dishes are simply cooked with garlic, lemon, olive oil, salt, and pepper, which really lets the freshness of the seafood stand out. The atmosphere is very casual and lively, and the place is almost always busy. Seating is communal, so you should come with an open mindset since you’ll likely be sharing tables with other guests. They don’t serve alcohol, but the restaurant is BYOB, so many people bring a bottle of wine or beer to enjoy with their meal. Overall, it’s a fun, no-frills seafood experience to eat in Astoria.
