Great venue. Been here many times - truly lives up to the hype, especially on specific nights. Most reviews come from those rejected at the door at basement because they wore black jeans and a regular black cropped top. Just don’t come in a large group, or seem like the belligerent type who decided to “switch things up” and go to a rave for once. Dress in something not basic, darker colors, don’t seem too drunk, speak proper, and you won’t even notice it’s 7am by the time you get out.
The ticket handlers were weird and racist for no reason…at least they refund my presale ticket but that’s literally the bare minimum. This isn’t worth your money and not worth staying in line. You can find much better night life in the actual city and not here. It’s actually not judgement free and you shouldn’t come here expecting that. The man that was supposed to scan our tickets ignored us for almost 5 minutes while smoking a cigarette and then proceeded to ask us if we know anything about the club. I guess we didn’t answer correctly tell told us to try again next time without explanation. Extremely unprofessional and extremely um hospitable. This even that good of a club anyway. Terrible experience and would never go back again.
Easily the best club in the city for real techno heads. I think it’s odd that people are leaving negative reviews for Basement because of the food trucks on the street near the Knockdown Center area. They can’t “ban” them because they are not on the property. I recommend that that person learns how a city functions and takes it up with that entity. That’s like if I insulted them online because a random car outside of their apartment was playing “I Don’t Care (I Love It)” really loudly. Anyway, I always have a great time at Basement!
loved my experience here, but it’s NOT FOR EVERYONE. and THATS OKAY. i wouldn’t consider this a good tourist-y spot to visit for ‘funsies’, the vibe in there is curated and for a very good reason. know who is playing and who you’re coming to see. incredibly queer and trans friendly, so if you aren’t, don’t go and ruin it for everyone else who is. i enjoyed myself and will absolutely come back!!!
I've never felt so discriminated against. I live in Miami and my friends have come from Madrid. We wanted to spend a techno night in New York but as soon as we got to the door they kicked us out for "our way of dressing" when we were going just like the rest of the boys and girls who were in the queue. I don't recommend it at all. We come from parties from Spain, Italy, Germany and we have never felt so much discrimination.
