Not sure what Portnoy tasted during his review but the pizza is not very good. I'm from Chicago but in recent years I've started liking NY style a little better than Chicago. Order a pepperoni pizza and the "fifty" pizza, fried zucchini, mozzarella sticks and garlic bread. Everything was good except the pizza. Seems they use can tomato sauce but I'm not sure. There's tomato chunks and not much flavor in the sauce. It was very greasy! The crust was good but we didn't enjoy it at all.
Really good garlic bread, some of the best! The cheese sticks are ok, average but the dip is delicious and the pizza is sol good. I think my favourite in new york. Their reputation is well deserved.
we came for a slice of authentic nyc pizza, that odd ball “one bite you know the rules” guy rated this place highly, so it was on our list. waited outside in the cold for 30 minutes, once we got inside and so I just have small and tightly packed the places we understood why. No complaints, pizza was great, seeing the guys in the kitchen, hustling pizzas out, and watching their system was entertaining and impressive. Would go back, can see why it’s popular. Definitely helped make our nyc experience with the kids compete
John's of Bleecker Street absolutely lives up to its reputation. The pizza is classic, no-nonsense, and incredibly satisfying—thin crust with just the right balance of crisp and chew. The sauce is bright and flavorful, tasting fresh and well-seasoned without overpowering the pie, and the cheese melts perfectly into every slice. What really stands out is the consistency and simplicity. There’s nothing flashy here, just expertly made pizza that shows why this place has been an institution for so long. It’s the kind of spot you leave already thinking about when you’ll come back for another slice.
This NY style pizza was delicious, but a little bit on the pricier side. There was a line that we had to wait in outside, but it moved fairly quickly and they were able to accommodate us after 10-15 minutes. I highly recommend their classic cheese pizza. The kiddos loved it! Their atmosphere was cheery and friendly and our waiter was very kind. Bring cash if you go, as there is a 4% cash discount.
