Went to this only because I did not know that another museum nearby was not open until 2 pm. I was pleasantly surprised at my experience. Learned a lot about the history of Paris. Beautiful, underrated gem of the city. Spent several hours here and ended up not going to the other museum. Wish the guides/maps included the room numbers. I went around several times to find rooms I had "skipped".
An impressive museum in the heart of Paris that is dedicated to the history of the city. The museum occupies a few neighboring mansions: the Hôtel Carnavalet and the former Hôtel Le Peletier de Saint Fargeau. The structure contains multiple levels filled with art that despict life in Paris. The building, a historic monument from the 16th century, contains furnished rooms from different periods of Paris history, historic objects, and a very large collection of paintings. The entrance of the museum walks you through various city signs and building signs that identify the skill of the craftsman. The museum is free to enter and open every day from 10-6 except Monday and quite impressive if you have the time to visit.
This beautiful museum is dedicated to the history of Paris and it's houses by two former mansions, Hôtel Carnavalet and former Hôtel Le Peletier de Saint Fargeau. I give credit to how this museum is organised to cater for visitors in that you float from one room to the next and onward to the next level with ease. I explored this museum for an hour and I didn't realise that I was entering and exiting the two mansions! There's a lot to take in but my conclusions are that you pick a certain floor and take your time exploring. I love all the recreated rooms mix in with original rooms and decor. Especially the furnished rooms from historic residences from the 16th to the 20th centuries. On its information sheet, the rooms spread over 3900 square metres and in eight stations or parcourses of rooms from different periods. It's free to enter. There's lift access to the different floors of the museum. I didn't see any signs for public lavatory but I wasn't looking for one. If you want to learn about the history of this city, this is one you cannot miss.
it’s really good for a free museum. You can learn more about French history through the museum the revolution, the background story of how Paris was established. If you’re interested in history, it is definitely somewhere that you need to check out. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Super interesting and informative. The best free history museum Ive been to in Paris. They have an art section, a medieval section, a USA friendship section, a room recreation section etc. I had to come twice to experience the full museum. They have lockers for free at the entrance to leave your things in, which I found very useful, and the museum is easy to navigate! Absolutely recommend, lots to learn!
