The most disappointing food of the trip. Septime is clearly trying to do an imitation of Scandinavian food, with lots of fermented flavours. Having been to many good ones in Scandinavia, this is just a pale imitation and it feels the chef is just doing odd flavours for the sake of it, every dish was extremely unbalanced and off putting. The squash with citrus and satay sauce was absolutely terrible, being Singaporean I just don't understand the concept of paring all this with satay sauce? It completely overpowered everything. The endive had the most salty sauce on earth with roe and was almost inedible. Monkfish main was overcooked and extremely overcooked salted. Worst of all they mixed up a dish and gave my pregnant wife raw scallops and didn't even apologise properly or make up for it, which is totally inexcusable. Wait times between a few courses was uneven and took really long. Price wise also not a good deal. Every ingredient was cheap (monkfish etc) and not worth the total price. We sent the monkfish back and they replaced it with a much better and simpler langoustine. Overall not recommended at all.
We chose the tasting menu with the wine pairing. At first, our table was not in the main dining room, and the atmosphere there lacked some of the restaurant’s charm. Fortunately, we were able to move later in the evening when another table became available. Throughout the meal, I felt the focus was more on complexity and technical execution than on the actual flavors of the dishes.
First off easy five star. May even be a six. This restaurant is on the 50 best in the world list and even getting all supplements and wine pairings for two people!!! It’s cheaper than just the base menu for one at many other restaurants. I feel like I got in on ground floor or something that should cost twice as much. The service was on par with any 3 star establishment, and the staff was passionate about the food and wine, especially the sommelier who was phenomenal. Every dish was better than the last I never felt bored, there was no missteps. Big highlights for the leeks, lobster bisque and the steak. Lastly, usually i feel an ice cream dessert is a lazy cop out, then they go and deliver easily one of the best ice creams I’ve had in my life. Wow. This was Lunch btw. When I come back to Paris I will be getting dinner reservations for sure. Easily lived up to the hype, go now before it’s more difficult or more expensive!!!
Maybe the best lunch of my life. Amazing attention to detail, fresh ingredients, tremendous creativity, fabulous team-type service, and a hip but unpretentious vibe. And the price is very reasonable for a restaurant perennially ranked among the top 50 in the world. Sublime.
We had an incredible experience at Septime. The dishes and Flavour combinations are truely mind blowing. The chef and his team put their heart and soul into each and every dish and it shows! The staff is friendly and the interior is beautiful. It had been a long time since we were blown away like this. Take your time, book ahead and go enjoy this unique and one of a kind restaurant. A visit is 200% worth it!
