Rated as #18 of the World’s Top 50 bars and #9 in Asia for 2025– you already know it’s difficult to get spots! Reservations are released once a month. Our party was up early in the morning pacific time the month before our trip to get these seats. Similar to other businesses in Tokyo, Benfiddich was small and had very limited seats. I saw them turn away a few parties who tried to walk in. Since we had a party of 4, we were seated at the tables as opposed to the bar. While we had a great time, I would have preferred to sit at the bar where you can watch the action happen. It was very entertaining watching the owner and the only bartender make all of the drinks! There are no menus. The servers talk with each person to discuss what kind of liquor and flavor profile we preferred. They were personable and suggested great-tasting drinks. Our party had a wonderful experience and it’s nice to try it out at least one!

Bar Benfiddich is, without exaggeration, one of the best cocktail bars in Tokyo. I’ve been there several times, and every single visit has surprised me - in the best possible way. The level of creativity, balance, and craftsmanship here is exceptional. What truly sets this place apart is the philosophy behind the drinks. The owner runs his own farm, and many of the ingredients used in the cocktails come directly from there. It’s a genuine farm-to-glass approach, and you can taste the difference immediately. Nothing feels artificial or rushed - every drink is thoughtful, precise, and beautifully constructed. The cocktails I’ve tried have been outstanding. The strawberry martini was elegant, fresh, and perfectly balanced - not overly sweet, just pure, clean flavor. The Trinidad chocolate sour was bold and complex, with a deep cocoa bitterness that worked beautifully with the sour elements - unexpected and incredibly well executed. And the floral cocktail made with ume blossoms, orange flower water, wintersweet (Rōbai), and a touch of apple juice was simply stunning - aromatic, delicate, and refined, with layers that unfolded slowly as you drank it. This is a place where the bartender is clearly a mastermind, not just mixing drinks but curating experiences. The atmosphere is calm and focused, allowing the cocktails to take center stage. One important piece of advice: don’t come here for a basic gin and tonic - that would be a complete waste of time. Before visiting, check the bar’s Instagram and see what seasonal cocktails the owner is creating, then order from that. Trust the process. If you appreciate truly high-quality cocktails, creativity, and ingredients treated with respect, Bar Benfiddich is an absolute must. Easily one of the most special bars in Tokyo, and highly recommended to anyone visiting the city.

Delicious, complex, and balanced drinks — I had their signature botanical gin fizz (huge florals with a backdrop of piney/peppery forests), a walnut last word (savoury, with less chartreuse and maraschino in the foreground), and a lavender white negroni (exactly what it sounds like, in a good way) . My partner had a kumquat mezcal sour. Service was quite attentive. The difference between the bar and table service experience, however, was evident. My partner had requested specifically for a sour with a smooth (as opposed to smoky) whisky base as prompted, which appeared to have been ignored or perhaps lost in transit between our server and the bartender. This aside, there was little explanation of the drinks or their components, even when requested. This stood in sharp contrast to the bar experience, where I saw guests receive not only a full rundown of their drinks, but also a presentation of the individual bottles used. Further, it appeared that we were led to a "hidden menu" of sorts despite our requests, consistent with prior reviews. For example, the signature gin fizz, while delicious, was somewhat of a stretch from the "herbal" request I first made, leaning heavily into florals instead. Suggestions made by our server made felt very much one-dimensional compared to what was going on at the bar, with little creative output. The drinks certainly did not feel as bespoke as the many rave reviews of Bar Benfiddich would lead one to believe. Lastly, I would suggest that they implement a last order time to manage guests' expectations. I made a final order around 25 minutes before the end of my 1h50min seating time, and was not informed of any possible mishaps. I received my drink with just 8 minutes to spare, and was only then informed that I would still have to vacate the premises with no allowance whatsoever. In other words, it took me 17 minutes to receive my drink, just to be basically unable to enjoy it. This left quite a bitter taste in my mouth (along with the negroni, which I hate to admit was delicious).

In a word, phenomenal: Hiro is a true master. Reservations are made online in advance, watch their Instagram for the schedule drop. It was like stepping into another world. The creativity, precision, and professionalism were world class. The passion speaks for itself and comes through in each handcrafted beverage. The staff know how to curate a unique experience customized to your preferences. Whatever you ask for, whatever you like, they’ll find a way to make you an incredible drink with a Benfiddich twist. The three drinks we had as whiskey lovers: (1) Passion fruit whiskey sour - floral, egg white and not gin; (2) Kumquat whisky - citrus and whisky; (3) espressotini done in a tiramisu style The drinks are strong lol! Highly recommend counter seats so you can watch the magic happen

This is the most incredible bar I've ever visited. I had the opportunity to visit Benfiddich twice… in 2023 and 2025… And of all the bars in the world that I've visited, this was, without a doubt, my most special experience of all… The atmosphere is special… Magical… alchemical… The level of quality and complexity of the drinks is incomparable… It's a remarkable and very special experience… That's why Benfiddich has become my favorite bar ever 🇯🇵❤️🇧🇷
