One of York's oldest and reputedly most haunted pubs, hosting live acoustic music nights.

Really solid traditional pub experience at the Golden Fleece. Great atmosphere with loads of character and a proper historic feel that makes it stand out straight away. The beer selection was good and well kept. Staff were friendly and service was smooth even when it was busy. Overall, a great spot for a drink and a bite in a genuinely unique setting. Would definitely go back.
Great little pub. Very quirky building due to its age and long history. I would advise this isnt the easiest to access due to the uneven floors but is such a lovely pub. Food was absolutely delicious and the range of beers were very good too. I will definitely be returning.
We have come for the weekend and we love it . Food was lovely and great portion sizes. Drinks reasonable and we are just having a Grumpy Old Man Cocktail each as we speak. They gave us free roast potatoes and that are great. We didn’t know they did rooms and we are already talking about coming back to stay in the haunted hotel . They do live music every night also . We love how it is a real pub keeping it original and pure . Well done guys . Now to have our cocktail cheers .
🐐This is my first time to visit the Golden Fleece York, and we all had a great time here. It’s been said to be historical and famous for its style and special events. 👻You may discover many surprising details when you enter and having meals in Golden Fleece York. It’s quite interesting and amazing if you try to look around. 🥩The meals are wonderful, and the steak tastes fresh & yummy with York pudding sauce.😋
Probably the weirdest experience I've ever had in a pub. Four of us went for a Sunday roast. We booked via the pub's advertised phone number. When we arrived, we were stared at blankly by the bar staff, who said that they don't take bookings over the phone for the same day. When I explained that they had indeed taken my booking, they started explaining their intricate internal business structure, rather than apologising for the mix-up. And, they simply refused to accept that they had taken the phone booking. Really bizarre. So, we were left to go and find a table on our own. Luckily, there was a spare one. Next, we tried to order the shared roast platter. They said that we couldn't order that (no-one told us this when the menus were handed out 🙄). I asked why not, given that the items on that platter were the same as if we purchased individual roasts. Again, they just blankly stared at us like robots and said that we couldn't order it. So, we ordered four roasts at a higher price. The four roasts came out at different times, meaning that we couldn't start eating together. Then, I noticed that the stuffing and crackling were both missing from my roast. We flagged down the waitress, who again gave us a glazed expression and said that they had stuffing "in the back", but had no crackling available. This should have been explained when we ordered, obviously. 🙄🙄🙄 She fetched some stuffing for me, but it still makes no sense that they didn't serve it originally. Again, no apologies were given, just very unsettling blank expression. Really really poor customer service. We won't be going back. The whole thing was embarrassing. Such a shame, as it's a pub with amazing heritage, but awful to visit.
